Research Paper
The global shift towards renewable energy is imperative to mitigate climate change and achieve sustainable development goals. Nepal, with its significant hydropower potential, presents a unique opportunity to lead this transition. While solar and wind energy offer immense promise, their variability necessitates effective energy storage solutions. Pumped hydro storage (PHES) emerges as a promising technology to balance grid fluctuations, enhance energy security, and support the integration of renewable energy sources. This paper explores the technical feasibility, economic viability, and environmental implications of PHES in Nepal. By leveraging PHES, Nepal can optimize its energy mix, reduce dependency on energy imports, and contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable future.
